| Verizon Wireless is a joint venture between Verizon Communications and Vodafone Group. With more than 106.3 million total connections, Verizon Wireless is the largest wireless provider in the US in terms of customers. The company launched its 4G Long-Term Evolution (LTE) network in December 2010, with plans to expand to cover 175 markets by the end of 2011 and its entire 3G footprint by the end of 2013. In February 2011, the company began selling the Apple iPhone, but the defection of AT&T Mobility iPhone customers did not occur as strategically planned by Verizon Wireless. Moreover, AT&T Mobility's pending acquisition of T-Mobile will give the second largest provider over 130 million total subscribers, vaulting it back into first place over Verizon Wireless. This report profiles Verizon Wireless' strategy, acquisition activity, alliances, and financial performance. |
