While the definition of information has changed, it does not change the fact that information is only important if it can be used. Volumes of information, reams of paper, stacks of books, and billions of Web pages contain bits of information that some find useful and others do not. The problem with all of this information is how to classify and index it so that needed bits of information can be quickly located and put to use. The Internet and Internet-based companies complicate the issue with new indexing and classification systems appearing regularly. Combine that with a lack of standards in the industry and finding a solution becomes even more difficult.
