An enterprise records management system (ERMS) provides for the systematic, or orderly, administration of enterprise records throughout their lifecycle, from creation/receipt to final disposition, and prescribes practices for the classification, retention, use, production, and protection of enterprise records. Enterprise records management is a subset of enterprise content management, and pertains only to enterprise content that satisfies the basic definition of an enterprise record. Content elements related to enterprise operations, like sales transaction, are enterprise records. Content elements incidental to enterprise operations, like photos from the enterprise picnic, are not.
