The WHO projects that, over the next ten years, the largest increase in deaths from cardiovascular disease, cancer, respiratory disease, and diabetes will occur in countries with developing or transitional economies. In addition to population dynamics and demographic changes (including urbanization), smoking and obesity are two key factors that will drive morbidity trends in Brazil, Russia, India, and China (the "BRIC" countries).
