Highlights

After strong growth in 2009 and 2010 of just over 16%, the Central and Eastern European retail savings and investment market is showing much lower growth, at 6.8%, in 2011. The market is set to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 9.9% over the period to 2015.

Russia, Ukraine, and Serbia have proven resilient during the period 2006–10 and are likely to show double digit growth for the period 2011–15f. The Latvian retail savings and investments market was hit particularly badly during the 2008 financial crisis and is still struggling to recover.

The historic and future growth of retail balances varies greatly, by asset class. Both retail mutual funds and equities showed single digit growth in the period 2006-10, with values of 3.7% and 6.4%, respectively.
