Convenience Stores: market research reports
The convenience store industry is comprised of businesses that are involved in the retail of basic grocery items. Those employed in the convenience store industry sell common products that may include a variety of cigarettes, candy and snacks, as well as general merchandise. Depending upon the location of the convenience store and the regulation of that area, a store may retail alcoholic products as well. Convenience stores are stocked with merchandise that has been purchased from wholesalers and manufacturers.
Convenience stores, also called “c-stores”, have endured change throughout the years, but continue to exist and even thrive due to their continuing emphasis on providing the convenience touted in this industry’s namesake. Their accessibility and easy transactions allow consumers to get what they need quickly and with complication. They offer ease and value, and the introduction of healthy and fresh products into their marketplace will continue to help their overall profitability.
Demand for this industry is based upon both consumer and commercial driving trends, and as such the profitability of independent convenience stores is dependent upon prices, merchandise, and location. Bigger companies have an advantage in the market as they have more purchasing and financing capabilities. Smaller companies continue to be effective through the acquisition of excellent locations, and providing specialized services and products.
Many modern convenience stores have ties to the general stores, dairy stores, and ice houses of the past. Because the layout and format of convenience stores continues to be relatively small, the industry has been able to endure and grow throughout the years, and still thrives through their adaptation to a continually changing market.
