The explosion of portable devices and digital content into the market have impacted consumer spending on several CE products, home audio being one of them. During the digital revolution, consumers weren’t focused on audio equipment as most of their content resided on a portable device or personal computer. Consumer spending on home audio also took a backseat as consumers upgraded their analog television sets with digital displays. With replacement cycle completed for many households, the industry hopes consumers will return their focus back to home audio to enhance the experience of listening to music as well as watching TV. Previous research indicates most home audio purchases are likely replacements or additional units of products they already own. With this in mind, CEA sought to understand what the key motivators are that drive consumers to upgrade their audio equipment.
