Smartphone shipments totalled 302m units in 2010. Whilst this is considerable, we project that smartphone shipments worldwide will rise more than threefold by the end of 2015, to reach 948m - an increase of +26% CAGR. We project that whilst smartphone shipments to North America will increase by +17% CAGR from 2010 to 2015, shipments to Western Europe will increase by +23%, and shipments to Asia Pacific (incl. Japan) by +33% CAGR.
In terms of operating systems, we estimate that Android smartphones will continue to have the greatest market share in 2015, shipping 415m units, with Windows Phone 7/Windows Mobile taking a 20% share.
