Dec. 20, 2012 (China Knowledge) – Hainan International Science and Technology Industrial Park (Hainan ISTIP) rated “BB” by China Knowledge in a research report published today. The industrial park approved as a state-level high-tech industrial development zone by the State Council in 1991.
Hainan ISTIP is 3 km from the nearest train station, 9 km from Haikou Meilan International Airport and 3 km from Haikou Port. Haikou Port is a major port in the southern coastal area of China. It offers 23 internationalsea routes. Ships setting sail from this port can reach South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Australia.
Hainan ISTIP is the only state-level high-tech industrial development zone in Hainan Province. It is located in Haikou, the provincial capital. The zone is near Hong Kong, Taiwan and other areas in Southeast Asia. A transportation hub connecting mainland China and Southeast Asia, Haikou has the advantages of an export-oriented economy as well as high-tech industries.
Haikou also has the best environmental conditions in China. Its air quality ranks highest among all the large and medium-sized cities in the nation. The healthy environment has attracted many people with high-tech skills. Furthermore, the well-protected environment is also good for the development of the electronics and biopharmaceutical industries, which both require good air quality.
The pillar industries of Hainan ISTIP are biopharmaceuticals, microelectronics, and optical-mechanical-electronic integration. In 2008, the park generated value-added industrial output of RMB 3.2 billion.
Industrial parks rated BB are considered attractive at a below-average level. Industrial parks with this rating are typically either in the development stage or are lacking certain important elements. There are 50 with BB rating among 254 national and municipal level industrial parks.
