Sudan and South Sudan Autos Report Q1 2015

Our bearish view of the Sudanese auto market has been borne out by new historical data suggesting a 31.4%decline in sales in 2013 to just 2,400 units. This lower base has dragged on volumes for the rest of ourforecast period, meaning the market will stand at just 4,300 units by 2018.

Data published by Renault show sales for 9M14 up 14.4% y-o-y at 2,058, but this is coming from a verylow base given the market's collapse in 2013. We forecast sales to end the year up 15.0% at 2,760 units, butthis is still far below previous market volumes stretching back to 2007. Even returning to the 3,500 units of2012 will take until 2016 based on our forecasts for growth to average 11% in 2015 and 2016. Over ourforecast period, therefore, the market's story will be one of recovery rather than growth.
