South Africa Information Technology Report Q3 2015

100 Pages BMI Research June 17, 2015 SKU: BMI5590729

BMI View: We downgraded the forecast for South Africa's IT market in the Q315 update based on aweaker economic outlook, including rand depreciation against the US dollar and the negative impact onhousehold purchasing power. Over the medium term the economic environment will continue to presentchallenges, but there are significant opportunities. The IT market continues to primarily be driven bygovernment spending as well as large enterprises, both of which are expected to slow their spending in thelight of a slower economy. However, there is growing interest in IT solutions among SMEs looking toexplore new sales and marketing channels as well as improve their operational efficiencies, offering newopportunities and maintaining South Africa's still good growth rate.

Headline Expenditure Projections

Computer hardware sales: ZAR26.1bn in 2014 to ZAR27.8bn in 2015, up 6.2% in local currencyterms. Rand depreciation represents downside risk by squeezing household purchasing power, resultingin a downgrade to our forecast in Q3 2015.

Software sales: ZAR16.0bn in 2014 to ZAR17.1bn in 2015, up 7.1% in local currency terms. We believethe uptake of cloud-based software, which is less susceptible to piracy, will drive growth in softwaresales, and be particularly important in unlocking the SME market.
