Czech Republic Telecommunications Report Q1 2015

BMI View: The Czech Republic telecoms market is one of the most advanced in Central and EasternEurope, with high penetration of both voice and data services. However operators are now facingchallenging conditions as price pressures threaten margins. The market has been under many of the samepressures as in neighbouring countries with market saturation; regulatory factors, such as cuts to mobiletermination rates; and the impact of the eurozone crisis on macroeconomic performance acting as drags onperformance. Furthermore, the market is in a period of change with the arrival of MVNOs from 2012 andthe regulator's efforts to attract a fourth operator into the market. These pro-competition measures shouldprovide a boost to growth and innovation in a market that already contains a number of major internationalplayers including T-Mobile and Vodafone in mobile, and UPC in wireline. However, significantopportunities remain, not least in the booming wireless data market after LTE spectrum was auctioned inNovember 2013, and VAS opportunities arising from the rapid proliferation of smartphone ownership.

Key Data

Mobile subscription growth is decelerating after the boost in 2012 and H113 following the arrival ofMVNOs. Total subscriptions increased 1.1% y-o-y to almost 14.4mn Q214, compared to 2.9% y-o-ygrowth to Q213.
