China Consumer Electronics Report Q1 2015

BMI View: The outlook for consumer electronics spending growth in China is strong over the medium termas incomes continue to grow and vendors tap the relatively low penetration in key device categories. Anadditional boost is the package of economic and social reforms announced by the government in late 2013,which should boost consumption, which had been effected to some extent by the cessation of governmentsubsidies in 2013. We forecast the market value will grow by 5.8% in 2015 and we expect growthmomentum will be maintained over the medium term with a CAGR of 5.2% 2014-2018. As incomes rise inChina, consumers will spend an increasing proportion on consumer electronics devices, a trend which willbe amplified by declining prices for tablets, TVs and smartphones.

Headline Expenditure Projections

Computer hardware sales: USD81.5bn in 2014 to USD86.4bn in 2015, +6% in US dollar terms.Tablets continue to be the outperforming device category, but in 2014 the popularity of phablets wasbeginning to erode growth momentum in the tablet market.
