Bahrain Consumer Electronics Report Q1 2015

BMI View: Bahrain's consumer electronics market is one of the smallest in the region, reflecting the size ofthe population. Growth in 2014 was squeezed by the political instability that has been an undercurrent inBahrain since the Arab Spring, and we believe it could continue to be a drag on growth in 2015, withdownside risk should the situation deteriorate. Despite its small size and weaker growth in 2014 there areconsiderable opportunities in Bahrain due to high per capita incomes and the propensity of the localpopulation to purchase consumer electronics equipment. Smartphones and tablets are currently the fastestgrowingdevice categories in the market, although big-ticket items such as LED and 3D TV sets alsocontribute to the market's expected expansion.

Headline Expenditure Projections

Computer Sales: The market will increase from USD205mn in 2014 to USD212mn in 2015. We expectthat tablets and notebook hybrids will dominate the consumer market in 2015, although tablet growth willslow from recent years due to saturation.
