| In 2008, the major focus for the Ontario government has been Chronic Disease Management (CDM), with an allocated $741 million over the next four years to diabetes management. This report details how the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC) is making aggressive investments in addressing Ontario’s health system challenges to increase capacity. Another very significant reality is the human resource shortage for physicians, nurses and other allied health professionals. Even with increased educational spots for medical schools and nursing, Ontario struggles to fill this capacity given the potential rate of attrition due to retirement.
