Since 1980 AWA Alexander Watson Associates has regularly published reports on specialty materials markets. In September 2005 AWA published the first edition of Specialty Papers: Global Market & Opportunity Sourcebook 2005. This report was updated and expanded in 2009. The economic climate, major developments in Asia, and numerous resulting industry changes in the last year, have created a need to update the report.

Specialty papers and paperboards represent a part of the paper industry where demands are more specific and tailor-made products are required. Specialty papers present possibilities for adding value, and the industry has been dynamic in the past year with the coming and going of specialty paper producers. In this niche, technology and creativity are important tools. Even more important for a company’s success is an understanding of the market.
