Metro Jinjiang Cash & Carry is 90% owned by Germany’s Metro Group with the remaining 10% by local state-run Jinjiang Group. Unlike supermarkets or hypermarkets, the company does not sell to private end users. Rather, it serves businesses and companies such as caterers, restaurants, hotels and small and medium-sized retailers.

Metro AG, the parent company Metro Jinjiang Cash & Carry, plans to increase the number of Metro Cash & Carry stores in China to 100 from 38 at the end of 2008, but no time frame was given to achieve the target.

To reduce cost, Metro Jinjing Cash & Carry streamlined its management team in February 2009. The program was completed in April 2009. The restructuring involved 5% of its management staff.

However, the company needs to turn around its declining share of the market and raise same store sales.
